After Death (2001) is Nicholas Brown’s score for piano trio, commissioned by the British Film Institute to accompany a new release of Evgenii Bauer’s 1915 silent film of the same name.
Bauer’s film, based on Ivan Turgenev’s story Klara Milich, follows a young man haunted by the spirit of an actress who died for love of him.
After Death was first performed alongside a screening of the film by the Triptych Piano Trio at Magdalen Auditorium, Magdalen College, Oxford, in an event produced by Oxford Contemporary Music.
